The History of Bar Amigos Monteverde
Bar Amigos was founded in 1963 by Vicelino Núñez, originally serving as the town’s only cantina with space for just five people. Over the years, it has undergone significant transformations, becoming the go-to social hub for both locals and visitors.
In 1991, Cristóbal Campos acquired the bar, and alongside his family, began a series of renovations. By 1995, they expanded the pool table area, added more seating, and introduced live music. In 1997, the bar evolved into a more family-friendly venue with an expanded bar and a new kitchen serving delicious food.
One of the most significant milestones was the arrival of the renowned band “La Taca Taca” or “Alegres de Monteverde”, who started performing every Friday, attracting a loyal following.
In 2002, Bar Amigos introduced the legendary Sunday Disco Night, which remains one of Monteverde’s most popular weekly events.
Expansion and Renovations
The most extensive renovation in Bar Amigos’ history took place in 2005, doubling its size to 180 square meters. New features included additional TVs, more pool tables, upgraded restrooms, a giant screen, a spacious parking area, new windows, and a private DJ booth.
